Bibliomania Book Fest at Lincoln Center

  • The Word Is Change 368 Tompkins Ave Brooklyn, NY 11216 (map)

Films inspired and related to books are taking over Film at Lincoln Center so of course we need a Book Fest so you have something to read when the lights come on.

Spanning everything from Hollywood blockbusters and screwball comedy to ghost stories, procedural thrillers, the essay film, structural experiments, and text cinema, Bibliomania traces the many ways artists have transformed the taciturn labor of reading and research into cinema. With too much Bibliomania to contain on the screen alone, the series will spill across the Walter Reade lobby and into FLC’s Furman Gallery on Saturday, August 29, from 2:30pm to 8:45pm.

This free public book fair is open to everyone, with no screening ticket required, and will feature selections for readers of all ages and tastes. Throughout the afternoon and evening, visitors can browse and purchase books, magazines, and artist-made zines spanning cinema studies and film criticism, literature in translation, contemporary art, poetry, fiction, comics, and nonfiction, all available directly from the participating presses, publications, and an independent bookseller. Behind the tables will be the publishers, booksellers, writers, and artists whose work brings these titles into the world, turning the fair into a chance to discover not only what they’re reading and publishing, but to also talk with the people shaping independent literary culture, and support that work at its source.

FLC is proud to welcome Film Comment, New York Review Books, The Film Desk, The Word Is Change, Inventory Press, Archipelago Books, Seven Stories Press, Deep Vellum/Dalkey Archive Press, and Cashiers du Cinéma. Copies of Texts of Light: A Mid-Career Retrospective of Fourteen Films by David Gatten, the illustrated catalog featuring essays by Tom Gunning and Genevieve Yue, will also be available for purchase courtesy of the artist. Through a partnership with the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, attendees will also be able to sign up for a New York Public Library card on the spot. Stop by between screenings or come specifically for the fair!
